COLOR GUARD WINS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP!

The Flanagan High School World Guard won the championship of the 2008 WGI (Winter Guard International) Color Guard World Championships, held April 10-12 at the University of Dayton Arena in Ohio.

Flanagan High School became the first Florida high school to win the WGI Color Guard World Championships.  This year marked the end a 10-year winning streak by James Logan High School (CA).

Led by music teacher Dean Broadbent, the 27-member Falcons team earned a score of 96.90 in the Scholastic World competition, outdistancing second-place finisher Avon High School (IN). Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School (81.60) finished 14th in the same competition.

The 2008 Scholastic World competition, which featured 32 teams, represents the highest level of color guard competition, with teams demonstrating top skill sets. More than 500 high schools from across the nation participated in the 2008 WGI Color Guard World Championships.

Winter Guard International (WGI) is known as the "Sport of the Arts." It brings music to life through performance in a competitive format. WGI is the nonprofit youth organization leading the winter guard and indoor percussion activities.
